S’mores Protein Mousse is a crazy simple recipe perfect for a bedtime snack. Not only does it have S’mores flavored goodness, but it’s packed with slow-digesting casein protein.
The slow-digesting quality of micellar casein is what makes it a perfect bedtime snack. This allows a slow release of amino acids in the blood throughout the night while you are sleeping. That means that, instead of potentially going into a catabolic state, where your body begins to breakdown muscle tissue, it has the protein to use as an energy source instead. If you’re wondering if whey can be substituted in this recipe, think again. The two absorb liquid differently, so the whey will lead to a much thinner consistency. I really like Optimum Nutrition’s Micellar Casein, as it seems to be more fine and blends best with the yogurt. Lastly, who doesn’t love a new use for the Quest bar? There’s only 1/3 of a bar on here, but cut into 12 little pieces rolled into balls, it goes a long way.
